Darkeyed Faith
Come and sit beside me, boy. Light my cigarette. Buy me a beer and tell me I've got the prettiest eyes you've ever seen. If you're lucky I'll read your palm, give you a quick blessing, maybe take you upstairs and make you feel alive for the first time in years. If you want answers, you want Rinaldo. If you want an easy listener, you wanted Magdalene. All I can promise you are possibilities: an uncertain future but possibly a really good lay.
Name: Faith
Titles: Darkeyed Faith, Mistress of Bones, Lady of Amber, Lady of Arcadia (former), Teacher of Asherah (former).
Rules: Nothing, currently, though she advises Gerard in Amber and their coronation is scheduled for a week's time.
Height: 5'7". Weight: 130 lbs.
Hair color: Black. Eye color: Black.
Distinguishing marks: Mole on the left side of her face near her mouth.
Appearance: A long cool woman in a black dress, with knee-length straight shiny blue-black hair, exceptionally long lacquered nails, often of odd colors such as blue or green, and enormous dark eyes ringed with long inky lashes and often lined in red, Faith has a gypsy allure and an easy manner. She always wears black, piles on the jewelry and the makeup, and is usually chain-smoking thin black cigarettes.
Colors: Black and blue (and white).
Symbol: A blue star over a pattern of five knucklebones (white) on a black field.
Personality: Faith appears to be one of the more laid-back of the Old Blood, but she is also among the most fatalistic and pessimistic. She is a creature of belief, of faith if you'll pardon the pun, but her belief lies mostly in darkness and in the fragility and corruptibility of the mind and heart. She is smart, savvy, witty, sarcastic, easy-going, open sexually and occasionally profane. She would consider being called a scary bitch a compliment.
Parentage: Unknown. Of the line of Caine.
Age: Unknown. She's considered one of the younger Council members, perhaps two thousand years old.
Known siblings: None.
Known children: Diarmuid.
Known agents: Gypsies, demons, minor gods, diviners and thieves.
Faith as Parent: Faith is a conundrum as a mother. On the one hand, she showers her children with money, gifts, fine living, possibilities that are endless, and makes sure it's fairly impossible for them to be punished no matter what they do in any part of the City. On the other hand, she's almost never there and when she is she isn't usually very loving or even very interested. The only time she acts motherly at all is when she's protecting her children from the wrath of others. Then she's a tigress. Faith's son, Diarmuid, for example, is a noted rake, womanizer and trouble-maker, unpopular with most of the Council and even with his mother. Despite her low regard for her son, Faith will not allow anyone to punish Diarmuid for his mistakes and keeps him in wealth, women and power in whatever corner of Arcadia he chooses to reside.
Faith as Employer: Faith's people were for the most part the people of Asherah, in all their decadent, ancient, decaying splendor. Minor gods and goddesses, demons and sorcerors, gypsies, tramps and thieves. Even now that she has fled Arcadia for the remade Amber, she tends to keep the same company and it is highly rumored that her agents within the City remain in action. Her ambassadors are of the same kindred, though usually with more polish. Faith mostly leaves her people to their own devices, interfering only when absolutely necessary. She trusts them, but is not particularly careful of them, and does not seem to mind much when they are discovered or killed.
Faith as Friend: Faith rubs a lot of people the wrong way. They find her foul language, her casual attitude towards sex and death, and her complete lack of concern for morality or the rules to be offensive. Faith does not seem to mind, and in fact likes people better when they stand up to her and tell her to her face what they think of her. As a friend, she can be very useful, offering to read fortunes, to protect you in a tight spot, or to help you find whatever it is you're searching for. She never claims to be anything she's not, and can be excellent company, especially at parties. Her best friends in the Council are Melchior and Leonard, though she is by far closer to Gerard. She does not seem to have much interest in the next generation, other than her son and Wakerobin, and she despised Magdalene and despises her double.
Faith Romantically: First off, she isn't romantic. For her sex is casual and comforting and fun, and all that business with flowers and candy and foot massages is for the young. She's not young anymore and she doesn't need it. She appreciates the companionship of the tough and the intelligent, and has been known to hook up with particularly strong men for centuries at a time, but there is never a guarantee of anything. Faith much prefers relationships to be open and honest, but not to be monogamous and not to be what most would consider serious. She once claimed that she would never marry, although the rekindling of her deep love for Gerard has made her reconsider that stance. Despite the impending nuptials, Faith considers it an open relationship. Gerard's feelings on the matter may differ.
