Prince Gerard
A thousand years is a long time to sleep, locked away from everything you loved by the capricious whim of those who should have also loved you. After wasting all that time on dreams, a man can be forgiven for acting on those dreams. He can be forgiven for choosing his own happiness. He could not be forgiven for letting the world remain in the fucked-up state it had been left in. A man must act. A man must hold hard to the memory of what was and the image of what may one day be. And most of all, he must never ever surrender.
Name: Gerard
Titles: Prince of Amber, Regent of Amber.
Rules: Amber (disputed).
Height: 6'0" Weight: 225 lbs
Hair color: Black Eye color: Green
Distinguishing marks: None.
Appearance: A large, impressively imposing man with a well-trimmed black beard and a sensual mouth that seems to always want to laugh even despite the fact that there hasn't been much to laugh about recently, Gerard is definitely what most people would consider handsome. There may be a few extra lines around his green eyes and an intensity to the set of his strong jaw that was missing from his original Trump, but with that intensity has come something that can only be called soulful. His strength is legendary.
Colors: Blue and gray.
Symbol: A gray bull on a blue field.
Personality: Gerard is honorable, compassionate, hard-working and noble in the old sense of the word. He is a hero in ancient tradition: judgmental, decisive, controlling, quick to anger and quick to forgive. He cares deeply about his family, but he holds no illusions about them, not anymore. He also loves Amber and she is his current top priority, even slightly above Faith.
Parentage: Oberon and Rilga.
Age: Unknown. At least six thousand years.
Known siblings: Osric (deceased), Finndo (deceased), Benedict (deceased), Eric (deceased), Corwin (deceased), Caine (deceased), Deirdre (deceased), Fiona (deceased), Bleys (deceased), Brand (deceased), Florimel (deceased), Delwin (deceased), Sand (deceased), Julian (deceased), Random, Dalt (deceased), Coral and perhaps numerous others.
Known children: None.
Known agents: Gerard has an elite armed force that acts as bodyguards to himself and to Faith, the Royal Guard of Amber, as well as a small standing army which he is constantly working on expanding. He also has a small cabinet of ministers and currently one Ambassador he intends to send to Arcadia after his coronation. His name is Quentin and he seems to be an even-tempered, intelligent man, more an administrator than a warrior or even a politician.
Gerard as Parent: He is tough but fair. To steal a line from 'Back to School', he might put one son through college and the other through a wall, depending on their behavior. He is a deeply loving man who would go to the ends of the earth for his children, but he doesn't tolerate disrespect and he has no intention of raising spoiled brats, cruel bastards, or useless drains upon society. (I did say he was judgmental). The odds are that he would insist upon teaching all his children how to fight, ride, swim, shoot and the rudiments of strategy. The rest of their education would be in the hands of tutors or their mother, and their final decision of what to be would their own, leaving the caveat that they have to do something.
Gerard as Employer: It really depends. As a military commander, he is smart, decisive and experienced, with an unexpected sense of humor and a deep loyalty and sense of camaraderie with his soldiers. He tries to be a just and fair ruler, but he has no experience with the process of building a new country out of nothing, and no real idea what to do about the esoteric problems besetting Amber and Shadow. As such, he can be peremptory, dismissive and harsh in his judgments of some of his more heavily tasked employees, particularly if they are invested in making Amber livable or in studying Shadow storms.
Gerard as Friend: You couldn't ask for a better friend than Gerard. He is dedicated, loyal, kind and generally forgiving. He might be the kind of friend who would clock you in the jaw if you were out of line, but he'd get over it immediately, buy you a drink, and probably he'd apologize, which isn't usual for those raised by Oberon. He is the guy who would show up out of the blue any time you messaged him, if you said, 'I just need to talk' or anything so cryptic. He is the guy who would take a bullet for you. His best friends used to be Faith, Melchior and Tamora, and he used to be desperately in love with Magdalene. After his revival, he became closer to Random than he had been before, and grew to care very deeply for Faith once again.
Gerard Romantically: Gerard has always been an all or nothing sort of man. He was either in love so desperately that he needed that person with all his being and would not rest until he was with her (as he once felt for Magdalene), or else he was in for a quick cuddle and out the door in the morning. He is more comfortable being the pursuer than the pursued, which is part of why he was uncomfortable taking the relationship with Faith past friendship until recently. Generally, if he isn't in love, he's got more interest in other things than in women (although he is heterosexual). Details of his relationship with Faith are unclear. Though they are marrying in a week's time, this may be a political move. Or he may have finally fallen for her the way she always hoped that he would.
