Reno Northcourt
Come with me. My Mistress would have words with you, favored one. My name is Reno Northcourt, and I am the leader of the Golden Dragons. I'm not saying this to wow you with my titles. I have a feeling, if Eris wants you, you've got titles and talents of your own. I'm telling you so you know why there are fifteen armed men surrounding you at this moment. Of course, if you can kill me, you can kill them. But I'm going to hope you don't try.
Name: Reno Northcourt.
Titles: Leader of the Golden Dragons, Protector of Draconis.
Rules: Nothing. Commands the Golden Dragons, Eris' elite bodyguard.
Height: 5'9". Weight: 180 lbs.
Hair color: Dark brown. Eye color: Dark brown.
Distinguishing marks: A whip scar cutting across his left cheek and curving around his eye, whip marks on his back.
Appearance: Northcourt is a muscular man with the quiet intensity of a taut bowstring or a hair trigger. Some consider him good looking, others only fair, but it is hard to ignore his charisma. When on duty he always wears the gold, orange and blue uniform of the Dragons. Otherwise, he tends to wear jeans and his black leather jacket.
Colors: None.
Symbol: None.
Personality: Northcourt belongs entirely to Eris when he is on duty, since he feels he owes her his dreams. So while he is in the uniform of the Leader of the Golden Dragons, he is controlled, intense and completely loyal. He is also ruthless in his pursuit of his mistress' objectives. Northcourt will do anything Eris tells him to do - she has tested his loyalty on many occasions and has never found it lacking. Off duty, he is another person entirely - one who is nice and open, with an easy smile and a good sense of humor, who enjoys the company of spirited trashy women and tough, like-minded men.
Parentage: Jason and Consuelo Northcourt.
Age: 52.
Known siblings: Rainier, Una, Priscilla, Salem, Gerald, Verona, Quentin, Tracy and Paul.
Known children: None.
Known agents: By dint of association, the Golden Dragons, though their loyalty is ultimately to Eris.
Recruited By: Eris Echidna.
Thumbnail History: Reno was born in Lethe, one of the smaller cities of Draconis. His father was a butcher and his mother was a waitress and a singer, but never a successful one. In the class oriented society of Draconis, that meant that Northcourt was in the lower middle class, and fit only for the service industry or other low paying, low glamor jobs.
Unfortunately, ever since he was a little boy, Reno had wanted to be a Gun Captain and dreamed of joining their ranks. First, however, he would have to change himself, because only those of the highest samurai caste could ever dream of becoming part of the illustrious and small cadre of the Gun Captains.
So when he was eighteen Northcourt left home and traveled from city to city within Draconis, using false names and signing up for the Gun testing wherever it was. Sometimes he was found out before the testing even began. Other times he almost made it through the testing before he was discovered. Many of the Gun Captains doing the testing expressed regret that they could not change the rules for Northcourt, as his connection to the guns and his natural affinity for combat and for the mental disciplines they used was rare. Only one of them did not find what Northcourt was doing amusing at all. He had Reno flogged in the square for daring to pretend to be a samurai.
Northcourt's last chance at joining the Gun Captains was in Acheron, the capital city of Draconis. As always, however, his background gave him away, but this time before he'd even picked up a gun. Eris Echidna herself came down to speak to him. She told him she knew him, knew his dreams and everything about him. She offered him service among her elite bodyguards, the Golden Dragons.
Personally trained by Eris herself, simply being a member of the Golden Dragons made Northcourt samurai rank, so he could have also become a Gun Captain, but he chose to devote himself entirely to his mistress. Over the years Eris turned him into a killing machine and forced him to prove his loyalty in the worst possible ways. Notable stories tell how when Reno was going to be married, the first time, to the first woman he had ever truly loved, Eris demanded that instead Northcourt break off the relationship and never see the girl again. Reno obeyed. There is also a rumor that the first assignment she sent him on was to kill a baby.
Northcourt has served Eris loyally for thirty years, working up to becoming the Leader of the Golden Dragons and the man who generally trains the new recruits. He has managed to separate his professional and personal lives and thereby keep some semblance of normality, but he is troubled by nightmares.
Northcourt as Parent: Northcourt would be a fairly normal father. He has a full time job which gives him great power and prestige and a lot of money, but he would keep what he actually does secret from his family. He comes from a large family, and a loving one. He is supportive, caring, laid-back and understanding. He is the kind of father who sneaks their kid into bars and lets them have beer in soda glasses, but also the kind who will ground that same kid for getting drunk while unsupervised and causing trouble.
Northcourt as Employer: Northcourt does not really have employees, since those who nominally work for him really work for Eris, but he does train and command the Golden Dragons. As a leader and a teacher he is firm and tough but reasonable. He holds his men to a high standard, but he trains them to get there. He has never asked anyone to do anything they might find morally repugnant. He leaves that to Eris.
Northcourt as Friend: Many of Northcourt's men are also his friends when off duty. He also has quite a few friends among the Gun Captains and the rougher bodyguard sort. He's a charming, easy-going man when not under orders, and is known for being giving, selfless and committed to his friends.
Northcourt Romantically: Reno enjoys the company of women, whether romantic or not. He tends to go for sexual encounters with spunky or gritty women, especially those who look trashy or punk. He's been married and divorced twice. The divorces were both the result of his wives wanting to know more about the work he does for Eris - in one case he told her and she left, and in the other he didn't and she left anyway. He's a good guy to have for a lover if you don't mind secrets - he's generous, selfless and loyal.
