Sansovino
If I give thee nothing, thou wilt say I have no heart. And if I give thee aught, thou wilt say I offer it as a trap to bait thy soul. If I kiss thee, thou wilt claim there is poison in my lips which steals the flower of thy youth. And if I kiss thee not, thou wilt claim mine eyes have made thee rapt and thou wilt waste away if thou canst not have me. And so I offer thee, between three goblets, one which kills outright, one which creates a ghost of a living love, and one which will give thee happiness, if happiness can be had in this imperfect world. The trick, my dearest child, is determining which cup is which. Wilt thou choose?
Name: Sansovino
Titles: Lord of Arcadia, Master of Tir Na Nog, Steward of the Dark Vineyard.
Rules: Tir Na Nog. (formerly)
Height: 5'10". Weight: 150 lbs.
Hair color: Black. Eye color: Hazel.
Distinguishing marks: None.
Appearance: Breath-takingly beautiful, Sansovino was a slight man of average height, with unruly, wavy hair, a perfectly trimmed goatee, and perfectly manicured, very expressive, very long-fingered white hands. His pallor was notable, as were his deep-set, hypnotic eyes. He dressed in the fashion of the late 1800s, and usually wore many rings and carried a silver-topped cane or riding crop. He was rarely far from his table, or by some magic could make it appear wherever he was, and the table contained three ewers of dark wine and three matching jeweled goblets. His favorite colors to wear were dark brown, charcoal gray, and emerald green.
Colors: Many.
Symbol: Three cups, all silver and bejeweled with green, red and blue respectively, spilling liquor of the same colors, which then mix together.
Personality: Smooth as satin, soothing as aloes, rich as diamonds, intoxicating as a fine wine. Sansovino's very presence was enough to cause the weak minded to become almost hypnotized and do whatever he said. His Glanconer smile had been known to drive women (and some men) to fall madly in love with him and pine away, slowly dying of unrequited love and sickness. He was ostensibly sympathetic to their plight, and certainly was always the epitome of politesse and the ultimate gentleman. Beneath that suave and debonair exterior, however, many of the more discerning could ferret out the sadistic glimmer in his beautiful eyes.
Sansovino is the most recent of the Council to have been found dead. The discovery of his murder occurred only a month ago, in fact. Though Sansovino had many enemies, he had seemed, after the dissolution of the seals on the prison, to become a very different man. Before, he seemed incapable of any strong emotion or attachment, a dilettante seeking stimulation in any form of pleasure, pain or intellectual pursuit. After, while he remained somewhat mysterious and a keeper of hidden and arcane secrets, his personality had slowly shifted to something much more volatile, open and often oddly sentimental. Notably, the conceit of speaking with thees and thous also dropped off around that time.
Parentage: Julian and Jasra.
Age: Unknown. About six thousand years old.
Known siblings: Tamora Darkmoore (believed full siblings), Rinaldo (maternal half-brother).
Known children: Many. The only one who was aware of and open about her parentage (and her distaste for her degenerate father) is Valkyrie Christian.
Known agents: None, but it is assumed he had numerous, perhaps more even than Arayen.
Sansovino as Parent: If you are Sansovino's child, it is a very good bet that you do not know it. To protect himself from any attempts to use them against him, or use their blood against him (which can be done and Sansovino knew this best of anyone), he hid them at their births, sometimes even disguising them as children of other male Council members. He knew where they all are, however, and was eager to use them all for his benefit. Those few children raised by Sansovino were often not his, or, if they were, are at least made to believe that they were adopted by this kindest of men.
Sansovino as Employer: All of Sansovino's agents, however, knew very well who they worked for, although there was a clause in their contract which forbade them from telling anyone, and often a suicide spell in effect which would kill them before they could give this information up. This was because Sansovino's agents, to a man or woman, were spies, assassins, prostitutes and con artists. They gathered information, assassinated potential rivals and generally caused mayhem at Sansovino's behest. They were all exceptionally good at what they did, and most were extremely good looking.
Sansovino as Friend: If you believe Sansovino, he had no enemies, and the only people not his friends simply misunderstood him and misconstrued his gentle and benevolent intentions. That being said, until very recently, no one got past that cool exterior and lived to tell about it, so no one really knew if there was a deeper and more real Sansovino or if what you saw was truly what you got. While this changed after the rebirth of Amber, he remained somewhat isolated from most, the exceptions being Tamora, Rinaldo and Magdalene. Serious run-ins with many of the younger generation led him to mostly avoid them, and as soon as his emotions fully returned, it became clear that he despised Coral, Dworkin and Sethry and would have killed them all, given a chance.
Sansovino Romantically: Sansovino would sleep with any adult, regardless of race, sex or age, and did so on numerous occasions. His only caveat was that they must wish to make love to him, which was not usually much of a problem. He never loved anyone but himself, and sought these trysts and these partners for the energy and joy and youth he could feel in them and experience through them and the desire to feel something, anything. He would stay with a partner until they no longer helped him feel, and then he would leave them and seek other interests. Often his discarded lovers died for lack of him. Other times, when they were stronger, they became obsessed either with getting him back or with seeking revenge on him.
