Magdalene the Fair
Oh, you poor, poor thing. Look at you, shivering there, as if you'd not had a decent meal or a warm fire in days. Come to my arms. There. A kiss to warm you. And then some food, some drink, some music, in a congenial setting, warm and safe and far away from the demons that torment you. Oh, love, of course I know about those. Everyone has demons. Believe me when I say they cannot touch you here. Nothing can touch you here but me. And I will only touch with love.
Name: Magdalene
Titles: Lady of Arcadia, Countess of Rose Arbor, Magdalene the Fair, Lady of the Roses.
Rules: Rose Arbor.
Height: 5'5". Weight: 132 lbs.
Hair color: Golden blonde. Eye color: Pale sea green.
Distinguishing marks: None.
Appearance: Widely considered the most beautiful woman in Arcadia, and perhaps in the universe, Magdalene was of medium height, voluptuous, smooth-skinned and golden. Her hair was long and wild and soft, her smile was comforting, and her voice was low and gentle. She wore bright jewelry, usually gold, and brilliantly colored gowns which hugged and flattered her magnificent body.
Colors: Purple, rose and gold.
Symbol: A Tudor Rose, of pink and gold, on a field of purple.
Personality: It is almost impossible to imagine Magdalene as anything but loving, kind, compassionate and sweet. She would always offer any who came to her whatever comfort they needed and would listen to their troubles. She rarely offered solutions or advice, but sometimes a kind ear was all that matters. She was intelligent, but few noticed it, focusing on her beauty and her sweetness of nature. She was entirely nonviolent, but so was Rose Arbor itself. No one could do damage to another within its environs. It was completely impossible, just as it was impossible, before the seals broke and the Council changed back to closer to who they were before, to do violence to Magdalene, regardless of where she was.
This had begun to change years before Magdalene's death, as the sacrifice of her violent nature became a choice and not simply a limitation laid upon her by the requisites of a spell. She continued to choose pacifism and healing, though it could be sensed and read in her interactions with others that anger, fear, guilt and hatred were emotions that she was able to feel again. By that inference, and by the fact that it was possible for someone to murder her, just outside of Rose Arbor, it seems likely that she was capable, at the end, of defending herself, and decided not to do so.
Parentage: Dalt and Gilva.
Age: Unknown. She was believed to be one of the younger of the Council members, perhaps only two thousand years of age.
Known siblings: None.
Known children: Florian and Vashan.
Known agents: Faeries, elves, nymphs, ambassadors and courtesans.
Magdalene as Parent: Without a doubt the best mother of the Council, Magdalene was nurturing, attentive, loving, supportive, caring, everything people want their mother to be. She was always available to listen, always there to solve problems and to assure you that whatever you felt was normal and nothing to be ashamed of. She could offer a great upbringing, full of wealth and luxury. She wasn't much of a disciplinarian, but her calm disappointment when her children turned bratty was often enough when coupled with a firm belief that they could and would become better. The only negative aspect of having Magdalene for a mother was that you could never really have her undivided attention. She loved and sought to help everyone, so jealousy could be a factor. No matter how much she doted on her children, if a person came in sick and needing attention, she would drop everything to heal them and see to their needs.
Magdalene as Employer: Her servants were those of Rose Arbor, the faeries, elves and nymphs, all beautiful, talented in the arts, and open, honest and true to her version of good, which is beauty, compassion and hospitality. Her ambassadors were all lovely and all espoused open relationships, open honesty about motives, and were usually completely taken in by others. Her courtesans spread love across Arcadia but rarely had real power. As such, Magdalene had the least effective information gathering force of the Nine, and was generally regarded by the other Council members as something of a joke, albeit a very pretty one. As an employer, she was kind, generous, and exemplary, although she did have a tendency to try to make professional relationships personal.
Magdalene as Friend: She was willing to be anyone's friend who wanted her as one. She was sweet, gentle, compassionate, a magnificent listener and a great lover, and her friends were often her lovers too. It would be easier to say who was not her friend than who was: Faith and Leonard did not care much for her, though in neither case will they say why. Recent information suggests that Faith was jealous of her relationship with Gerard, and blamed her for his imprisonment, and that Leonard held grudges for the time she spent as his father's paramour, which he believed she ignored instead of facing, when she buried all her negative feelings in the new Magdalene the Fair persona.
Magdalene Romantically: Magdalene was love incarnate. She personified all kinds of love, from the familial to the friendly to the sexual and sometimes had difficulty differentiating the above in the way that normal people do. She had lovers of all walks of life, all sexes, all anything. She was unfathomably magnificent at sex, and almost equally good at romance, comfort and compassion. She had more partners than any other person in Arcadia and possibly the universe, but she remained innocent in the sense that she always expected love, and always managed to completely and utterly love the one she was with. If the relationship did not end up working, she never blamed the other, either, and therefore had much fewer disgruntled ex-lovers than Sansovino or even Faith.
