Magdalene the Vicious
They speak of me as a copy, as a Shadow, as less than the Magdalene they knew. But
in truth, I am the original. I am unblemished, untarnished by curse or piddly, cowardly sacrifice. We did what we had to do in the old days, and we apologized for nothing. We were fierce and proud and golden, warriors, poets, engineers, doers of deeds. We were the sons and daughters of Amber: her protectors and those who vowed eternally to bring her light to darkness. If I lack a thousand years of bitterness, a thousand years of disaffection, a thousand years of giving up on everything that ever mattered to me, I hardly think this presents me as inferior. And they will see soon, these sons and daughters of mediocrity, what it means to be the daughter of the Lion of Eregnor. You will see as well, if you stand against me.
Name: Magdalene
Titles: Lady of Acheron (unofficial), referred to by some by Magdalene's old title 'the Vicious' and by some by her old title 'the Golden.'
Rules: Acheron, Eris' old capital city. She decided against renaming it.
Height: 5'5" Weight: 124 lbs
Hair color: Golden blonde Eye color: Sea green.
Distinguishing marks: None.
Appearance: This version of Magdalene is no less beautiful than the more well-known one, despite a marked difference in facial expression, manner, movement and clothing style. She wears her hair a little shorter, and she tends to a leaner, more muscular build, lacking some of the softness of the Lady of Rose Arbor. Where our Maggie was all smiles and sympathetic looks, bright colors and soft fabrics, this one has a more cunning, calculating edge to her smile, an occasional predatory gleam in her eyes, and a wider range of facial expressions, most likely the better to ensnare. She moves with leonine grace, lazily, except when there is a weapon in her hand and then she is quick and deadly. She likes black and white and other solid, dynamic colors and she favors the wearing of furs.
Colors: Red and green and black.
Symbol: A black lioness on a checkerboard field, red and green.
Personality: Someone who knew Magdalene the Fair well would recognize bits and pieces: her cleverness, her skill at reading people (though this woman is much less attentive in this area, more likely to overstep her bounds), her talent at visual art. The Council remembers this girl, the young girl, blood-thirsty and voracious, full of ambition and intrigue and appetites of all types. She wants the world and a case to put it into, and she isn't settling for second base. Not so secretly, she also wants a man to share it with, or at least to do up the back of her dress.
Parentage: Dalt and Gilva.
Age: A tricky question. Her incarnation has memories of being about eight hundred years old. She has only existed in this form for eleven years.
Known siblings: None.
Known children: None. (Magdalene's children are unlikely to consider her their parent and vice versa.)
Known agents: Through some sort of combination of ingenuity, charm and bargaining, Magdalene has begun to put together an elite force of some of the surviving Golden Dragons, some of the Skullmen and a few of her own personal picks. They have helped her build up and hold her position in what used to be Draconis, despite the disapproval of the majority of the Council.
Magdalene as Parent: She would be entirely a different sort of mother than the Magdalene we knew. Much less permissive, much less of a good listener, much more likely to be strict and possessive and over-protective, to keep her children very very close to her and try to avoid allowing them to form strong connections with anyone else. Co-dependence is even possible. She would be loving, in a sense, and she would be very attentive, very eager to give all the best to her family, but she'd never leave you alone with a relative or a stranger. There are probably some relatives she'd tell you not to speak to at all, the same as with strangers.
Magdalene as Employer: She tends to be a manipulator. She seems to be a very kind, generous, giving employer, but in reality, she just wants you to love her deeply enough to sacrifice for her. She has a hard time settling for respect when she could have adoration. And while love is certainly the top of her list, fear isn't far behind, so god forbid you betray her trust and live to be returned into her presence. She is a born delegator and since her tactical skill was never as high as many of the others, it is in her line to listen to her advisors perhaps more than she should. She can be duped, the manipulator manipulated.
Magdalene as Friend: Loyalty and determination are the two positive traits that she definitely shares with her predecessor. She respects her friends, trusts their judgment and will back their play, no matter what it is. She puts up with behavior from friends that she absolutely should not - whether it be to her, or to others, often with little more than a comment. She might not die for you, if it came right down to it, but she'd take a bullet for you. She tends to have few friends who are not also romantically involved with her, or who have never been romantically involved with her.
Magdalene Romantically: Insatiable, unstoppable, dramatic, kinky. She is bisexual with a marked preference for power, whatever incarnation it may find itself. She prefers physically attractive people, particularly if they are strong, but that has much less to do with her interest than if they have something to offer her. She would never spend more than a look on someone who could get her nowhere. She isn't precisely monogamous, but she's looking for a mate, someone to stand beside her, help her in her ambitions and provide her with children. Because of this last part, she's mostly looking at men, though she hasn't ruled out the possibility of settling down with a woman and just picking a strong male candidate for the rest.
