Melchior
There is no easy answer to that which ails us all, the trouble which gnaws like a cancer at the heart of us, and of our deepest most secret wish. What I can show you is an answer only, and perhaps not the answer best suited to your own needs. If you would come, there is fire, there is water, there is a sword, a wand, a cup and a crystal. Arayen would read much into these artifacts. But they are simply means to an end, and I hope the end will be happiness.
Name: Melchior
Titles: Lord of Arcadia, King of Elysia, Sorceror of the Golden Halls, Master of Twilight.
Rules: Elysia.
Height: 6'0". Weight: 181 lbs.
Hair color: Black. Eye color: Dark brown.
Distinguishing marks: A tiny scar above his right eyebrow.
Appearance: A handsome man, tall and imposing, with dark skin, dark eyes and dark hair, Melchior's best features are his beautiful face and his dazzling smile. He dresses simply and comfortably, often but not always in bright colors, and forgoes the more traditional sorceror's robes for suits of simple cut. He wears no jewelry, but almost always goes gloved and with a sweeping dark mantle, which seems to catch the shadows.
Colors: Red, gold and green.
Symbol: Upon a field of green, a golden sword crossed by a red wand, leaving red sparks. Above, as per chief, upon a golden field, two orbs of green and one red cup, between.
Personality: Melchior is arrogant, self-obsessed, and considers his sorcery and his research to be more important than anything else in the world, but he is also a genuinely decent person. He destroys corruption where he finds it, takes in orphans and the dispossessed, teaches those who wish to learn his answers, and offers food, clothing and lodging to any in need. He is one of the few Council members who genuinely feel that the Council is a force for good, but also one of the few who dislike its construction and feel that while balance is all well and good, it would be better to err on the side of humanity and compassion.
Parentage: Unknown. Of the line of Bleys.
Age: Unknown. Most guess around four thousand.
Known siblings: Balthasar (deceased), Jasper (deceased).
Known children: Elfwin Arkain.
Known agents: Sorcerors, bodyguards, ambassadors, and do-gooders.
Melchior as Parent: Melchior is one of the few Council members who sincerely cares about his children and seeks to protect them, to let them grow to be the best they can be, and to make them understand that they will always be loved no matter what. He is a hands-on parent, offering love, support, encouragement, and punishment when necessary. The difficulty is that he sincerely believes his own research and his own interests are the only ones that matter, and he will push his children to do as he does, and if they do not, he will be disappointed and will continue to attempt to sway them and change their minds. His son Elfwin, for example, chose a military rather than sorcerous life, and this has been a source of discord between them for centuries.
Melchior as Employer: Melchior is one of the few and the best sorcerous trainers and Masters in the City, and trains most of those of such a bent. He also finds need for those of a physical frame of mind to serve as his bodyguards and his muscle, and he has ambassadors to the other eight sections, as well as a roving cadre of agents who seek out corruption, abuse and intolerance across Arcadia and stamp it out with a brutal, immediate and effective response. He treats those who work for him very well, paying well and treating them more like friends than agents. The only trick is that you do not want to disappoint Melchior or fail in the task he sets you, or you will never work for him again.
Melchior as Friend: If you can get past the fact that Melchior does consider himself superior to you and his work more important than yours, he can be a charming and rewarding friend. He is pleasant, intelligent, well versed in many different subjects, can and will help you out of any jam you find yourself in, and is free and liberal with gifts and advice. He is quite fond of Magdalene, gets along quite well with Tamora, considering their differences in methodology, and is especially close to Princess Melaine.
Melchior Romantically: For Melchior, love comes in two basic forms: the quick, passionate interest, here today and often gone tomorrow, and the deeper friendship with benefits. His interest for the first is usually young, beautiful and headstrong women who can give him a run for his money and who are not easily won. He has been married many times, and has had numerous mistresses. For the second type of love, he goes for older, more dependable women who share his interests.
