Rinaldo
Whoa. Hey. Point that somewhere else, will you? There's no need for animosity. I've got your back, jack. And frankly, given the shitstorm that's about to hit this place, I'm not sure how you can afford not to enlist my services. I mean, I've got experience, I know everyone you need to know, and I can get you anywhere you want to go. Not to mention, I can help with a few tidbits, insights, you know. Trumps? Mirrors? Hell, you can't afford to try to kill me. If you managed it'd be a fucking shame. So why don't you relax, I'll conjure us some wine and we can talk about what it is that you want out of life.
Name: Rinaldo
Titles: King of Kashfa (former), Lord of Amber (former), Lord of Arcadia (former), Master of the Keep of the Four Worlds.
Rules: The Keep of the Four Worlds, such as it is, the Shadow of Chiaroscuro.
Height: 6'2" Weight: 216 lbs
Hair color: Red Eye color: Green
Distinguishing marks: None.
Appearance: Rinaldo is a tall, handsome man with a killer smile and often tousled hair, a nose that's been broken a few times and dimples that don't stop for days. He rarely shaves or trims his hair, so he's usually got the unkempt but cool thing going on, and even when he doesn't seem to be smiling, he's about halfway there. He can dress up and when he does, he dresses up pretty, but generally he prefers tee shirts and leather jackets over suits or more old-fashioned formal wear. He misses his motorcycle and his leathers.
Colors: Red, gold and green.
Symbol: A phoenix in red and gold on a field of green.
Personality: He's clever, cool, friendly, confident and intensely competent. He holds intelligence as a commodity and yet he buys and sells that profit freely. He won't hide anything, but if you want to know it, you'll trade it for something else. Rinaldo (or Luke, as Coral calls him, and as he likes to be called by others) is a salesman before he is anything else. He's brave and he loves to wager, but what he wants, more than anything, as evidenced by his lack of a side in any prior conflicts is that he would like to see a whole, complete Universe again, one in which Order, Chaos and Shadow could all be intact and undamaged.
Parentage: Brand and Jasra.
Age: Unknown. Believed in the vicinity of four thousand years.
Known siblings: Sansovino (half sibling, maternal), Tamora (half sibling, maternal).
Known children: None, though he did help to raise and consider a daughter his best friend (and lover) Nayda's daughter Hope.
Known agents: It really isn't known. No one who knows Rinaldo believes that he actually doesn't have spies and agent throughout Amber, Arcadia and Shadow. And yet, no one has a clue where they might be, who they might be, or if they actually exist. He has a kingdom in Shadow, which he calls Chiaroscuro, where he rules when he has an interest in doing so.
Rinaldo as Parent: It would very much depend upon the mother. Rinaldo is capable of a deep love which would cause an idyllic childhood, of being the best father, teacher and protector this universe has seen. Or he is capable of being absentee, distracted, shrugging. He really relishes being a teacher so that aspect of the relationship is very likely to exist no matter what. On the other hand, he tends to get bored with things, even with his own children, should they disappoint, and he might throw them off for a clever girl at a bar, offering the phrase, 'Why don't you go be somewhere not around your father for a while?'
Rinaldo as Employer: He's fantastic. He's ridiculously likable. People just adore him. He's smart, experienced, cunning, and he wants spies in every courtyard. Spies who, hopefully, are discreet, competent, loyal and well-hidden. As an employer he is generous, caring and yet demands full support. He's a fairly hands-free sort of boss, believing in hiring the best and then leaving them alone to do things their own way. He doesn't micromanage, but he's also not above having spies spy on his own agents.
Rinaldo as Friend: One of the most interesting things about Rinaldo is that almost everyone thinks that they are his friend. Even people who otherwise have few (like Tamora), people who cannot stand one another (like Coral and Faith), and people who have very strong reasons not to trust him (like Random) all seem to like him, enjoy his company and give him the benefit of the doubt. Rinaldo is an interesting sort of friend: on the one hand, he is fun to be around, he's intelligent, generous and free with help or advice. On the other hand, he's not exactly dependable. He may take off without a word and be gone for months, even a year. And while he might be the guy on the big white horse that comes in the nick of time to save the day, he's also the guy riding off into the sunset when all the conflict is over and peace settles in again.
Rinaldo Romantically: Rinaldo is a gigantic flirt. He flirts as easily as he breathes. He's charming, laid-back and knows all the right moves. Sometimes he almost seems a little too slick, like a cartoon caricature of a superhero. Sometimes he comes on a little fast and a little strong. Still, he does pretty well with the ladies, although he hasn't had anything like a serious relationship in over a thousand years, after the death of his dearest friend and most true love, Nayda (or rather, the ty'iga in Nayda's body). Since then, he's stuck mainly to flings and one-night stands, not letting himself get too close to anyone he might end up caring too deeply for.
